Welcome to the Mount Ridley P–12 College (MRC) website.
As College Principal, I am proud to lead a dynamic learning community centred on high expectations of students’ achievements, supported by robust structures and practices.
Established in 2009, Mount Ridley P-12 College has built comprehensive curriculum and transition programs aimed at catering for the needs of all students through their various stages of development. Indeed, the Prep to Year 12 nature of the College allows for an uninterrupted emphasis on the social, emotional, cultural and academic needs of all students. Through a caring and safe learning environment, individual students are encouraged to think, reflect and develop into life-long learners. In this way they can take their place in society as content, informed, responsible and active citizens in the global community, prepared to deal with a rapidly changing world and work environment. For this reason the College motto of ‘Preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s opportunities’ truly comes in to play.
A rigorous selection process has been utilised to employ a professional team of educators and support staff for the purpose of continually developing teaching and learning strategies that match the educational opportunities provided by the 21st century. Staff at the College are dedicated, caring, highly skilled and versatile professionals, committed to developing the full potential of each student through the implementation of effective personalised learning programs.
The College’s values of personal success, respect, tolerance, honesty, trust and responsibility underpin its stimulating and harmonious learning environment. Students are empowered to model these expectations and behaviours. Through the MRC Student Leadership Program, our student leaders are able to engage in a range of activities aimed at developing their leadership skills. This in turn has resulted in their active contribution to the continual enhancement of the College’s teaching and learning programs.
We pride ourselves on the various partnerships we have developed with our parent body. Parents are encouraged to take an active role in their child’s education and have been involved in programs such as Classroom Helpers, Home Study information sessions and Open Mornings: volunteering in the many events organised by the Parents and Friends Association; or working collaboratively on College Council in continually supporting the learning needs of our students.
In exploring our website, you will be provided with a glimpse of student experiences across the College. Indeed, the talents and achievements of our students and staff are many and varied with learning taking place anywhere and anytime – in our purpose built learning neighbourhoods and specialist facilities; on sporting fields; during excursions and camps; through work on a range of community ventures; on work experience; in partnership projects with our sister schools in China, India, Italy and Japan; and on Community Days. Positive and productive relationships are encouraged in order to provide students with opportunities to expand their horizons through collaborative ventures with members of the broader community.
Select entry programs such as ACED (Acceleration, Challenge, Enrichment, Discovery) cater for capable and committed students who are able to meet its academic rigours, whilst the Elite Sports Program (ESP) has students accessing exclusive sports training and intensive conditioning. A Middle Years High Achievers Class and VCE High Achievers Club (MHAC) also provide opportunities for students to focus on achieving high levels of academic excellence. Alongside this, a range of programs including the Program for Students with Disabilities (PSD), English as an Additional Language (EAL), Oral Language, Language Support and Literacy and Numeracy Intervention programs provide specialised assistance aimed at meeting the specific individual learning needs of students.
Our educational environment is unique and it is a pleasure working with members of the College community in continually creating an atmosphere of learning that is innovative and conducive to the discovery of knowledge and the development of a real sense of achievement for all.
