In October, our Year 7 Girls Basketball team represented MRC at the Northern Metropolitan Championships. Our girls displayed exemplary attitudes and behaviours both on and off the court throughout the day and achieved an outstanding result, winning all four of their games, including the final.
This meant the team were now one of the final 8 teams remaining in the competition and will compete again at the SSV State Finals in November.
On Tuesday, November 14th, our Year 7 Girls Basketball team represented the college at the State Championships. After a nervous start, we managed to defeat Berwick College in our first pool game, led by an outstanding display from Layla and Victoria. In our second pool game, we defeated a very tall Horsham College, with significant contributions from Hollie, Sia and Selena.
In our final pool game, we took on Wodonga and played a fantastic first 10 minutes to build a lead and then finished the game with strong defence, led by Charlotte and Neveah to keep them to a very small score. This meant we qualified for the state final against Catherine Macaluey College, Bendigo. Anchored by fantastic defence from Jayde, our girls were dominant, Ieasha's great 3-point shooting kept the opposition at bay as we ran away to win the State Championship 41-15.
With our girls, being so humble, they don't quite understand how big of an achievement this is!
